With less than 2 weeks to go to the 15th Annual SeaLink Magnetic Island Race Week, the
committee are working to ensure the event goes ahead as planned.
On Tuesday 16th August there was an unfortunate incident at the Magnetic Island Marina causing some damage to a number of berths within the marina. We have a close working relationship with the Magnetic Island Marina manager Lance Jager who is working around the clock to have tradesman repairthe damage that was caused and we are confident that the repairs will be completed in time.
Mike Steel chairman of the MIRW Committee said “We are currently working towards a range
of solutions so that the event can continue while still providing a great experience for our
yachties.”
“It is important that the event goes ahead for the region as it is the largest event on the island
and injects a significant amount of money into the local community. The event brings up to
8000 visitors to the region each year.”
We understand there will be a number of questions from yachties about their berthing
locations and we ask for their patience while we work through the best options. Safety is our
top priority. We will be communicating with our competitors directly to keep them informed
of the status of the marina and their berthing requirements.
The social program will go ahead as planned at Peppers Race HQ all week as well as the
Townsville Airport Father’s Day at Picnic Bay on Sunday 4th September.
