As the Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) continues to monitor and respond to the current severe weather situation, Council has advised the city’s bin collection services will resume tomorrow (Tuesday 4 February 2025) with the exception of suburbs located in the current black evacuation zone.

Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said Council crews would be prioritising waste collection as normal to catch up on missed collections today.

“As of tomorrow (Tuesday) morning our waste crews will be back on deck and operating as normal, so please place your bins out on the kerb on your usual collection day,” Cr Greaney said.

“Those bins that were missed due to the severe weather today will be collected on Saturday.

“If you are located in the black evacuation zone, we ask that you do not re-enter the area to put your bins out, Council will ensure that once the area is deemed safe those bins will be sorted.”

Councillor Greaney urged the community not to place rubbish or fallen green waste on the kerb and that Council’s Hervey Range and Stuart facilities would be reopened from Tuesday morning.

“We do not want people placing green waste on the kerb, our waste facilities at Hervey Range and Stuart are open from Tuesday and our residents can drop green waste there for free all year round.

“We have crews working across the city, from waste to road crews and everyone in between and we don’t want to be creating any potential hazards by leaving waste on the kerb.

“We’re also urging the community not to place their bins in the gutters as they will block water flow, rather place them up on the edge of the nature strip, but make sure you’re leaving plenty of room.”

The following facilities will be closed tomorrow (Tuesday 4 February 2025):

  • Flinders St Citylibraries

  • SERVE Customer Centre at 103 Walker Street

  • The Strand Waterpark

  • The Rockpool

  • Riverway Lagoon
