Photo shows the demolition of the Horseshoe Bay jetty on Magnetic Island.
The jetty was built in 1922 to support the thriving commercial fruit industry in Horseshoe Bay. The fruit was loaded via the jetty onto the ferry and then shipped to Sydney and Melbourne.
The jetty was irreparably damaged when Cyclone Althea struck Townsville and Magnetic Island on 24 December 1971, and was demolished by the Harbour Board in 1973.
