Celebrate 60 years since the 60s at Townsville Seniors Week

Townsville seniors are invited to celebrate 60 years since the 60s at Council’s Seniors Week Luncheon next month.

The 60s-themed events on October 21 and 22 will include lunch and live music from the talented 45 RPM band, who will be covering classic Beatles hits.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said it was important for Townsville to celebrate the senior citizens that helped make the city great.

“Seniors Week is a chance for us to come together and celebrate seniors across Townsville who have helped shape our city,” Cr Greaney said.

“This year’s event at Townsville Stadium will include a 60s theme and prizes for the best dressed attendees, as well as the announcement of this year’s Senior of the Year Awards.

“I would encourage anyone who would like to head along to call the Ticketshop to make a free booking. We’ll be running free shuttle buses from Stockland, Willows and Castletown shopping centres out to Townsville Stadium for anyone with a booking for the luncheon.”

Cr Greaney said she was looking forward to the announcement of the Senior of the Year Awards.

“We always have outstanding senior citizens nominated for these awards, and this year is no different,” she said.

“There are still two days to get your nominations in, so if there’s someone who you think deserves to be recognised for their contributions to Townsville please don’t hesitate to nominate them on Council’s website.

“I’m excited to see who the winners are when they’re announced at the Seniors Week Luncheon.”

Booking for the Seniors Week Luncheon are essential. To make your booking, call 4727 9797.

Senior of the Year Awards nominations close this Thursday, September 16.
