Extra Council operations staff boots are on the ground on Magnetic Island today to complete an island blitz off the back of the severe weather event.
Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said Council had sent an additional Civil Construction crew, asset inspector and a number of vehicles to join the full-time crew based on Magnetic Island.
“Our crews are getting out and about across Townsville and Magnetic Island and making sure roads are clear of tree branches and potholes, as well as drains unblocked and any damaged infrastructure made safe,” Cr Greaney said.
“The crew heading over to Magnetic Island will focus heavily on making sure the roads are safe for our community as well as taking care of any fallen trees on or around roads.
“Our asset inspector will review infrastructure on the island and determine the extent of any damage and if any additional resources will be required in the coming weeks and months.”
Councillor Greaney said the Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) and the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) were continuing to monitor the weather and urged people to stay informed in case anything changed.
“Townsville has received substantial rainfall over the past few days and with that comes things like fallen trees and damage to infrastructure, so it’s vital we rally the troops and get any issues resolved,” she said.
“The best way to make sure our team knows where trees are down or where potholes are, so they can get out and fix them as soon as possible is by reporting them to Council through the Snap Send Solve app, on Council’s website or by calling our team on 13 48 10.
“The Magnetic Island transfer station has reopened to the public as per their usual operating hours, and I want to remind people that green waste is free to dump year-round.
“Our crews are out and about getting the jobs done as quickly and safely as possible and we thank the community for their cooperation.“

Please be advised, the MCN sent off a question to TCC media regarding green waste , 'There will be NO kerbside green waste pickup for any suburb in Townsville'.
