Townsville City Council is on the hunt for individuals wanting to advance their knowledge and skills while helping build the Townsville of tomorrow, through the 2022 intake of apprentices and trainees.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work and develop their skills across a vast area of disciplines within the organisation.
Mayor Jenny Hill said Council will continue to invest in providing job opportunities for all community members in 2022, providing a much-needed avenue for those wanting to enter the workforce, or re-enter it, as Townsville continues to deal with the economic impact of COVID-19.
“Council is committed to keeping local talent in Townsville, and the most straightforward way to do that is to take on apprentices and trainees who are the professionals of the future,” Cr Hill said.
“We are proud to be in the position to help individuals of all walks of life gain a nationally recognised qualification and the experience in their chosen disciplines and for career progression through a combination of practical work and structured training.
“Through these learning opportunities, we encourage growth, and character building, which is ultimately going to benefit them when facing workplace challenges, but also everyday living.
“Upon completion of their training, they will be ready to enter the workplace, equipped with extensive knowledge and practical skills needed to prepare them for jobs in their chosen field.”
Council Business Trainee Lara Coombe said she has enjoyed having the opportunity to gain practical experience and work while gaining her qualification.
“I have such a fantastic team of colleagues that I enjoy seeing and learning from every day and it’s been great to be able to get practical experience while studying,” Ms Coombe said.
“The application process for the position was easy and comfortable as there was a lot of support available.
“Upon completing my Cert III, I would like to secure a place within the council, but also broaden my skills by gaining further qualifications.”
