The Magnetic Island community is being asked for their feedback on a new multipurpose sport court to be built in Horseshoe Bay Park.
Townsville City Council is relocating the existing sport court as part of a project to improve stormwater drainage for the surrounding residents.
Council infrastructure services committee chairperson Kurt Rehbein said the proposed new location of the court was near the corner of Horseshoe Bay Road and Gifford Street.
“Council will be removing the existing tennis and basketball court and building a new hard surface multipurpose sport court in the park, including fencing and lighting,” Cr Rehbein said.
“There is the ability to include a third sport in the new court and we’re asking the community if they would like to include netball or futsal.”
Feedback can be provided through the Have Your Say Townsville website at haveyoursay.townsville.qld.gov.au from 28 March to 15 April.
Council is spending $6 million to enhance drainage around Horseshoe Bay Park. The project has been partially funded through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) with $1.6 million being provided.
The Magnetic Island community has been informed about the project with Council officers briefing the Magnetic Island Residents and Ratepayers Association in February and previously in 2020. Information has also been distributed to residents in the immediate vicinity of the park and Apjohn Street.
At their request, Council officers have also met one-on-one with several residents to discuss the project and its anticipated benefits.
