LTTE MAG Is Comm News. RE: 55 Kelly St and Nelly Bay Harbour dredging, ENVIRONMENTAL VANDALS, crooks or both?
Hello all, The way I see it today….
In regards to the Nelly Bay Harbour dredging and 55 Kelly St., dredge spoil dumping, a few facts need to be laid out. 2 Topics combined.
There is a basket load of “All the Kings Horses and all The Kings Men” in the Federal, State and Local Governments whose job it is to care for country and community. To me they are all somewhat complicit in failing to care for Magnetic Island and community.
Gustav Creek sand was to be periodically scrapped from between Sooning and Bottiger Streets where the Sooning St., bridge would halt the progress of the sand into the harbour. TCC never maintained that section while being paid to, by the extra rates that the Harbour community face. By 2011 or 2013(?) EPA (STATE) allowed the TCC to remove 30 years of Nelly Bay Beach Replenishment sand that had overflowed into the harbour, to be taken to the old Picnic Bay Dump. Now in 2025 we have the TCC and “All the Kings Horses and all the Kings Men” removing the sand again, destined to be used as TCC see fit for purpose about Magnetic Island with a quietly spoken veiled suggestion it might go back to Nelly Bay Beach.
Some years ago TCC told us that 55 Kelly St., was infested with asbestos, described at a public meeting at the Bowls club with an A4 page with different colours depicting differing intensities of asbestos found. I interrupted the session with my Freedom of Information Engineers report that showed after 26 or 28 test trenches,2M long X 2M showed no asbestos. Why was the community lied to? Sadly….I have since been shown where some asbestos from the old small Nelly Bay dump was levelled and spread quite a long way to the creek bank. Maybe they had a different understanding of asbestos in the early 1970’s.
Then we were entreated to the Federal grant application by ERGON (State)and TCC’s (Local) secret Hydrogen Feasibility Hub (Hydrogen Power Station) on 55 Kelly St., right in the Hood. A Lansdown Hydrogen experimental feasibility study?..................This was happening according to “All the Kings Horses and all the King’s men”.
Then I found (TEL Townsville Enterprise Ltd and others elsewhere) that “Sword and Stone”, an American capital Investment company had a Battery (Shipping Container sized) Demonstration Manufacturing Plant CURRENTLY being built on the island here somewhere. 55 Kelly St.,???? TRM (Totally Renewable Magnetic Island) informed me at a MIRRA meeting late last year that is no longer happening…… fact is, that is was….. behind our backs and where?? This was happening according to “All the Kings Horses and all the King’s men”.
Why are all the Kings Horses and all the Kings Men, Federal, State and local governments, bending over backward to destroy the Magnetic Island community’s appreciation for 55 Kelly St., and now by dumping the dredge spoil there when a Hydrocyclone can be used to clean and leave the sand on the beach where is it is supposed to be as a condition to operate the Harbour?
The Ratepayer is paying for all these shenanigans and is going to have to import 20,000 CuM of sand from the Burdekin to replace the wasted sand. That’s smart!
