Further to the article dated 29th Jan 2022 in the MCN titled ‘Island No Closer To Having A Compliance Officer’.
Council stated only two applicants had applied for the island position - neither applicant met all the of necessary requirements.
TCC stated ‘Council is currently considering other options to further enhance compliance with state and local laws on the island’.
This left the community in a quandry as to what actions TCC would take in the future.
A spokesperson for Townsville City Council told the MCN today “Council is now working towards employing a part time officer for a 3 month period as an initial trial.”
The MCN believes the process has just begun to find a suitable compliance officer to fill the position. The spokesperson went on to say “The officer’s role will enhance the compliance on the Island with state and local laws including animal management, parking and overgrown properties”
Council will advise with updates, when a date is set for the officer to begin work.
